Strategic Plan
Part II: HRD Strategic /Operations Plan. This is worth 600 points and should be 8-10 pages. Use APA style and do not include the cover page and citation pages in your total. 12 pt. font, Times New Roman font, double-spacing. Be sure to reread the syllabus description for this assignment too as there may be more details within the syllabus that you need to pay attention to.
Usetwo sources, our textbook and one peer-reviewed professional journal articleto support your choice. Include four quotes at minimum, two from each source to demonstrate the alignment of the authors to your choice, your goal, for your HRD Plan. Include the authors’ quotes and work within your work demonstrating how your choice aligns to the authors’ ideas and work. Make sure the quotes are about one to two sentences, no longer, in length and flow within your own work.
The purpose of including the authors viewpoints, from both our textbook and the journal article is for the student to demonstrate support in the literature for the choices they have made. Please note that while there is a student example for an HRD plan in our course, the paper does not include research to support the work. For this course you will need to include the research support for your proposal. Remember to check APA style for the inclusion of quotes within your paper and also in the citations pages.
Here is the Scenario for your Plan: You have just been promoted! You are working at the same organization but have been asked to take on a new role. If you are already the supervisor, you may still complete the assignment as stated, just thinking more perhaps from what you would like to add to your current organization if you could in terms of being able to add a new employee.
Pretend that you are a new supervisor at the organization whereyou currently work. Certainly, you have many ideas of how your organization could be better, more effective, and often this is in the addition of adding another person to your staff to help make the vision and mission come to life, or to enhance the organizations ability to achieve goals. So, guess what, you have been just informed by your direct supervisor that you are going to be allotted one extra position or personnel member for the upcoming year. As the new supervisor, you have the choice of what this position will be and how this position will serve your organization in working towards the organizations vision, mission, goals, and needs. You need to decide what this position will be and create an HR plan to bring this new person on board. Leadership/supervision is a complex endeavor and HR processes are key to successfully adding and keeping a new employee
Based on the assigned readings, your journal article, discussions, activities, lessons and assignments, develop a comprehensive HRD operation plan to accommodate this position that hasgoals, objectives, strategies, and an action plan for recruitment, selection, induction, retention, professional development, and performance appraisalrelated to the specific focus for your organization. You should refer to one of the evaluation tools embedded with our course in terms of why you would use this for the new employee or you may provide a copy of a different evaluation from your current organization. If you add a copy of the evaluation in as part of your paper this does not count in the overall paper lengthrequirements.
Research: Be sure to include your research to support your proposal in the sections that they fit. For example, you may find an article that speaks of the importance of induction processes and aligns to the ideas you plan to pose for your new employee. It would make sense then to include a comment from the author of the article in your section on induction. You will make the choice of where the research, our text and the article you have chosen, fit.
Your focused HR plan would cover all of the areas noted, but will focus in on this one new position for the organization. Include a section for each listed component. Students can, if they so choose, approach the assignment by an outline format of the required categories and then include in a systematic manner the areas of goals, objectives, strategies and an action plan for each of the core areas.
Length for each area should be approximately 1-2 pages making the entire plan eight to ten pages in length. (Your paper could be longer if you write two pages for each area and points will not be deducted if you go over ten pages.)
Include the following:
Describe the context/locale
Share why this position is needed-how will this new position help further the vision, mission, and address needs for the organization?
Goal for Additional Staff Member-what will this person be able to do?
Process for Recruitment-how will you broaden your search?
Process for Selection-how will you make the selection, processes you will use?
Process for Induction-how will you acclimate the new person?
Process for Retention-how will you retain this new person?
Process for Professional Development-what kind of professional development will you arrange for this person?
**Process for Performance Appraisal-how will you evaluate this person? Include in your discussion one of the evaluation documents/processes in our course or from your district, or your workplace. Note how you would use this tool/document/processes.
Students may go over this page number if needed but should be concise in their thoughts for a succinct plan for these overall areas within Human Resources for Development of individuals. The plan should follow federal and state laws and regulations and reflect best practice research. The plan should also reflect professional (see Learning Forward) and state standards, includingFlorida Principal Leadership Standards 8 (a d)and relevantFELE Competencies and Skillsif they pertain to your context.Think of the plan as a road map for you as the leader/supervisor of an organization. You may also want to refer to your own school district or organization to glean policies as examples but you will need to draft your own plan based upon your research and outlook as you devise the HRD plan that you would seek to utilize as an educational leader. Please include appropriate citations in APA style.
