Module 1 Assignment/Select Your Topic
Please complete the form linked below to select the topic for your integrated study and the age group about which you will write your study. For this assignment, you will submit your completed form.
Here are some things to consider when selecting a topic. You do not need to answer these questions in your assignment, but you should consider them before you decide on a topic.
1. Is the topic of interest to students?
2. Is it meaningful currently in students’ lives? For instance, while dinosaurs are of interest to students, it is not recommended that you do a study on this topic because students are not going to encounter dinosaurs (except for plastic toys) in their daily lives. The same would be true about ocean animals, unless of course, your students live near the ocean. It would be more appropriate to cover lake animals if that is what is more likely to be in your state.
3. Can you cover more than a week’s worth of material? Studies last longer than a week typically; they tend to go on as long as the children are still interested in the topic, so it is important to consider a topic that will allow for more than a week’s worth of material.
4. Does your topic lend itself to investigation?
5. Can you easily integrate more than one subject (math, literacy, etc.) for each plan you develop? Your name:
