I start my day with prayer! I reach out to God. I thank him for keeping me through the night and waking me up to begin a new and fresh day. I thank him for his many blessings and provisions he has given me, and I ask him to lead me and guide me through the day. For as long as I can remember, I have kept a routine of spending time praying for my school, students, parents, and co-workers before I go to work. My faith in God helps me get through each day as an educator because Ive hit some rough patches many times. He continues to give me the strength and wisdom to do my job well and provide the students with the knowledge and skills to succeed. All I need to do is keep learning, growing, and depending on him. These scriptures inspire me to keep moving forward each day. They encourage me, so Ill have the confidence to lead my students in a positive and safe environment and perspective to inspire students and reach their hearts. Through faith, I can receive guidance from God on how to handling situations that may seem out my control.
I believe keeping students engaged in meaningful and purposeful lessons will help minimize behavior. In Chapter 8 of the Charles text (2019), Jones states, To help teachers maintain student involvement, he emphasizes a teaching approach he calls Say, See, and Do teaching (I believe this is a great tactic with getting students involved and engaged. We use this practice in my school I do, you do, we do. I want to have my students so engaged and involved with their activities that they want have any time to think about misbehaving. I plan to utilize some of Jones strategies of rules, scheduling, organization, communication, and giving the students certain classroom responsibilities. In the Charles Text (2019), Jones emphasizes that we should make it plain to students that the purpose of classroom management is to help them learn, be successful in school, and have an enjoyable time doing so. Developing rules that raise respect and a ring classroom environment will be beneficial in the long run. Making sure that expectations for behavior are evident at the beginning of the year by reviewing these rules with students is a must. You have to continue to reinforce your practices throughout the year. In Hebrews 12: 5-13 it talks about God discipline his children. God is not only a discipline parent but also a demanding coach who pushes us to our limits and requires our lives to be disciplined. Even though there will plenty of times that you may feel like youre not able to discipline or management your room successfully as you planned, we have to push on to victory, and we will be able to accomplish it as we follow Christ and draw on his strength. Our students will not always respond or accept discipline in the way we would, but thats why we teach them that we are doing it in love.

As I think of my future and I think about my past in education, teaching will not be easy without God in your life and in the classroom. When I walk into my classroom, I am going to have God on my side. If God bless your teaching and your classroom then you will have an easy year. I will pray and ask God to help me through each day. I will ask God to give me teaching grace and to be with me as I have these children, his children future in my hands. For the Lord discipline those he loves, and he punishes each one he accepts as his child (Hebrews 12:6). I will keep god first in the classroom and I will lead by example. I will try to keep the students attention. I will try to make the class entertaining so there will not be any falling asleep, no conversation between students that is not pertaining to class, and no wondering eyes. Teachers, Glasser says, must interact with students in ways that influence them to make more effective choices (Charles 2019). When a class is boring, I know a student will not pay attention and misbehave. I was assistant teacher in a special education classroom last year and it was a boring class. The first day of school she had those students working on work sheets and that did not stop the whole year. The students were tired of doing the same thing everyday all day. Those students worked from the time they entered the classroom until it was time to go home. There were no rules and no procedures and a lot of misbehavior every day. The students were standing up telling the teacher before the end of the year they were tired of all that work. When homework was sent home, the parents would not even help the children even though it was homework to include the parents. When I get my classroom, I will do things different then what she did to our students. I will make sure I greet them at the door, get to know them, and keep God first.

Teaching is a profession that is viewed by many as an easy task. Their are mixed views about teaching and some of its principles. Teaching is a discipline. Some individuals are born teachers. However, others must be trained extensively. As for me personally, I am an inherited teacher. As I reflect back I have always possessed great qualities of an effective educator. I am a great communicator, an advocate for children especially those who have exceptionalities. Even though, I didn’t always realize that teaching was my calling I have tried to avoid it by entering into various other professionals. After taking some special education courses and Mrs. Diane Bradley, Project H.E.L.P.S. Director Jackson State University calling it to my attention about my gift I was able to envisioned my destiny. It was so ironic how I had been searching and wandering what road I should travel far so long.
Allowing God to get the victory out of every situation no matter how difficult is discipline. I have learned the hard way by not being a good listener. By not listening to my parents as the Bible clearly states, I have chosen to enter the teaching profession at a late stage in my life. I am now more seasoned and empowered by a wealth of knowledge and vicarious experiences. I’m willing to be used as a vessel for the Lord. I will teach my students how to be productive citizens, how to be self sufficient and productive members of society. Lord I’m asking for guidance. How to be more disciplined. How to humble myself and grateful for all things.
