After viewing your classmates presentations, describe some new things you learned about two different vulnerable populations other than the one you researched.
Reply 1: Rachelle
When it comes to vulnerable population we can, as health care professionals, understand that they will always be affected negatively when it comes to accessing health and social services. When it come to the homeless population it is always known that they suffer from poor health and minimally access. Free clinics and social programs exist in most cities with high homeless populations. Something new that I did learn was that non-hispanic white Americans are make up more of the homeless population. This is surprising because often other races or ethnicity are often over emphasized in the homeless population. Another thing that I learned is that the LGBTQ community faces discrimination in health or could sometimes not have access to certain medical programs.

The first thing I learned was that the elderly population is likely to double over the next sixty-five years. While I knew that the elderly population was increasing rapidly currently, due to the baby-boomer generation, I had not realized it was projected to continue that climb so drastically. This leads to consideration for helping care for the elderly both health wise and financially speaking. Will the demand for elderly care nurses continue to increase, and how will we meet that demand? The second thing I learned was that mental illness affects 1 in 5 people at some point in their lives. While the definition of mental illness is vast, and may not correlate with many of our common and misguided notions as to what qualifies as someone with mental illness, this is still a very large number. For something that affects such a large amount of people I still feel that it is mostly left misunderstood and undertreated. Understanding and acceptance of those with mental health issues has made great steps in the recent decades but there is still a vast need to focus additional resources on this side of the health care industry.

1. The Institute of Medicines report,The Future of Nursing: Leading Change, AdvancingHealth, addresses the need for nursing leadership; it discusses the potential for nursing to lead improvement and redesign the healthcare delivery system. Take a look at the videoTransforming Care at the Bedside: Empowering Better Nursing Careto see what some nurses have done to improve healthcare in their facilities. Based on your nursing experience, what change would you like to implement to improve care? What are the first steps you would take to implement the change?

Hello Class,
Quality care is best provided in a healthy, functional work environment. Key issues are staff
safety; communication; collaborative, positive work relationships; worked design(space/facility); work
processes; infrastructure the support staff participation in decision-making; and an emphasis on positive
work environments. The support staff and reduce staff stress/burnout in high turnover rates and seek
to develop staff. (Finkelman 2017, p483). Based on my nursing experience in the hospital that I work
at. We have the whiteboard in the patients room which prioritizes each individual point of care, and
we also have what we call a rapid response team was just like in the video Transforming Care at the
bedside, Empowering Better Nursing Care. We have a number that we call if we notice that there is a
deterioration in the patients status as nursing staff, we also encourage family members to pick up that
phone and dial the number for rapid response if they notice a change in their loved one’s status. To
maintain an environment that works the steps that would I take to implement this change, I agree with
Finkelman where she talks about helping staff to lower burnout and or stress, support staff in
participation whenever there is an area for making a decision (which by the way, this doesnt happen
the hospital I work at. They talk about the changes in they pass it down to us to implement them. They
dont ask us) also I would help in encouraging better working relationships, communication,
collaboration, and staff safety. Zero tolerance for incivility, with tons of respect between staff members.

Right now, the significant role that nurses play in medical services is by supporting patients throughout therapy. This is a significant function as it adds to the patient’s wellbeing. Shockingly, this restricts their ability to contribute towards decision making in the health care setting. Nurses carry out instructions from specialists and other administrators.
The significant change that can be executed in the improvement of care is getting more nurses in boardrooms and leadership positions. Nursing must create leaders whether it be in the boardroom or at the bedside. To provide appropriate safety and quality of care, nurses at all levels require to provide a type of steadfast leadership, build leadership capabilities, and fill in as full partners together with other medical services staff (Bali & Ramesh, 2019). It is significant for nurses to proceed with their traditional role as caregivers. But with an end goal to follow the recommendations of the report, a few individuals from the profession need to take up leadership positions. This will empower them to bring a brand-new point of view in the manner with which healthcare is managed. Nurses are engaged in the management of patients on an everyday premise. They are consequently in the best situation to comprehend the difficulties looked at in medical clinics. This change in approach to care will prompt a more progressive result regarding healthcare change. It will improve working conditions for healthcare workers and services provided to patients.
In this way, the initial step in the mission to actualize the change is getting additional education on management. A healthcare provider should pursue additional training on health policy and different viewpoints that are identified with the facility. Education is the best way to make one more set up to confront future difficulties. In the event that this is combined with work experience, at that point attendants will be relentless in the journey to assume a functioning role in making sound health decisions. It is the nurse’s attribute and one that they should focus on progressing in the event that they are to accomplish the recommendations from different reports on what will it take to improve the human condition (Bali & Ramesh, 2019). Additional training ought not to be restricted to leadership. It is important to identify approaches to propel the nursing profession. This can be accomplished by registering with doctorate programs and taking part in the research.
Studying more about the field is helpful in the appropriation of evidence-based practice. This can be incorporated into medical care practice with an end goal to improve patient outcomes. It is significant for nurses to zero in on continuous professional training. This will develop knowledge in the field. It will likewise enable them to be better leaders. 495 week 7 Replies

The mission statement for the hospital I currently work for is ” A Community Built on Care”. Living and working in Miami make you appreciate and learn from all the different cultures that are within our community. Our hospital take pride in helping the community by giving them access to healthcare when they needed. Like I stated on my last week’s post, we do or used to do monthly health clinic to help the community and those less fortunate check their cholesterol, blood sugar and blood pressure. Also the hospital collaborate with nursing homes, rehabs and SNF to accommodate patients to their needs once they are discharge. The representative form the different nursing homes and rehabs come to the hospital and talk to the patients and their family to offer them their services. They also offer tours within the rehab to make sure the family gets familiar with the services provided and the accommodation needed for them. Another important collaboration that the hospital makes is with the different home health agencies. Most of the patients from my unit are going to need some kind of services when they go home. Most of them or all of them had surgery so most likely they’ll need wound care or physical therapy. Because of the nature of my floor,. which is a surgical floor, we mostly collaborate with the organizations or institution I mentioned above. Also we work closely with the ambulance service, specially for the ortho patients once they are discharge. Like the mission statement said our hospital is build on care, we tried to accommodate each patients to the best of their needs and this makes a great community and culture of care in the hospital and all the employees work together with outside resources and organizations to guarantee a pleasantstay as well as when the patient go home. We try our best to help the patient, before, during and after discharge.

This week’s clinical site experience was among the most insightful I have had in my nursing education. The exercise occurred in anursing and rehabilitation center that caters to patients with various degrees of medical needs. Rehabilitation is a key component in a patients journey towards wellness and restoration to their functional life (Abu Mostafa, Plastow & Savin-Baden, 2020). Throughout my stay at the facility, I had numerous eye-opening experiences. One of the difficulties I encounteredwas delivering the news about a patients paralysis after undergoing a traumatic spinal injury. This was my most challenging moment as I could not comprehend how to break such difficult news to a patient who was hopeful about regaining his ability to walk. I learned several nursing interventions during the week. One of the most invaluable was the use of massage and heat to stimulate nerves and muscles. Physiotherapists administered these interventions to the spinal injury patient. According toHarvey (2016),physical therapy is vital for spinal cord injury patients restoration toa productive and satisfying lifeand averts numerous other complications linked to the ailment.
Thenursing and rehabilitationfacility collaborates with distinctprofessions, organizations, and stakeholders to promote health. The facility caters to patients with distinct medical needs; hence, multidisciplinary teams collaborate to promote patients wellbeing. On the other hand, organizations and stakeholders play an integral role in ensuring the facility operates effectively. Charitable organizations, community members, and philanthropists provide different support services to the facility. For example, they donate essential patient equipment to assist patients from time to time. The facility’s mission is the provision of comprehensive rehabilitation service to help patients regain their independence so that they can return to the daily activities and people who bring them joy. The facility has successfully restored the well-being of several patients.
