Performance Evidence
Evidence of the ability to:
apply practices that promote innovation within a team including:
modelling open and respectful communications
contributing to the make-up and rules of the team
planning and scheduling of activities
reflecting on activities, feedback and challenges to identity improvement options
encourage others to contribute to innovation in the team
implement improvements and communicate about them.
Note: If a specific volume or frequency is not stated, then evidence must be provided at least once.
Knowledge Evidence
To complete the unit requirements safely and effectively, the individual must:
explain what innovation is, the different types of innovation and the benefits of innovation
describe the internal and external factors that contribute to a team becoming and remaining innovative including:
team characteristics
the role of group dynamics and diversity
broader environmental factors
explain how activities can encourage or hinder innovation in a team including:
allocation of time and activities
modelling behaviour
rewards and recognition
communications
feedback
PART ONE – PROJECT
Directions: This assessment is designed to reinforce your existing knowledge and extend your skills in the areas of managing your time independently and as part of a group,
understanding
and
applying critical
and
creative thinking
to
complex
work problems,
demonstrating
the ability to
make decisions
based on available options and
monitoring
your own performance as well as that of your team and
initiate
measures to improve it.
Your manager has identified the following problems in your workplace. Working in teams of 3-4 people, choose
one only
as the basis for your project:
1. You are asked to advise a newly appointed supervisor who needs to develop a strong and effective leadership strategy to increase team productivity and/or quality
2. An established organisation decides to relocate to a large regional city. You are asked to manage the transition. What are the challenges in planning and implementing this move?
3. You are employed by an organisation which is about to undertake a merger. Identify an effective strategy to promote a smooth transition for both the organisation and the staff

perhaps your team can suggest a different topic for your project. Please obtain approval from your trainer if you wish to design your own Workplace Problem as the basis for this project.

Structure of reports should be flexible but generally follow:

Introduction should do the following:
present an overview of the subject matter
describe the research methods
identify the findings (can use bullet points)
list recommendations (can use bullet points)
use language appropriate to audience and purpose.
Body text
Body text should be ordered into clear sections with sub-sections if required. Text should contain analysis of findings and should be written using paragraphs.
Language uses plain English as follows:
active verbs
present tense
accurate language with any jargon explained
formal English tone
no contractions
General presentation
use consistent format including fonts and styles
use font size 10-12 for body text
use 1.5 spacing
one line between paragraphs
justify text
use same font style for all headings
use section headings
your name and date in footer
include page numbers
use correct citation for all references used.

for your project. During this time, you

be observed by your trainer. The observation of your team meeting must allow opportunity for your trainer to observe

below. Also, please ensure you are prepared to answer the
Mandatory Questions
listed in the Trainer Observation Guide below.
