Student-to-Student Contact & Class Participation: Activities (Discussions)

Learners are expected to have bi-weekly interaction with the Faculty Mentor as well as with
other Learners through class participation in the Class Discussion Forum. Learners must
post to the Course Discussion Forum at least once each week. The post should be a direct
response to the topic for the week and include a brief commentary on the posts of other
classmates. Your post must be substantial and thoughtful and be a minimum of 150 words. It is
recommended that you write your post in Word to track your word count and then copy and paste
it into the discussion forum space in the course syllabus.

Points for each of the topic discussions will coincide with textbook chapters, readings, and
handouts. The activities/discussions component of your evaluation will consist of your online
posts, discussions, and responses. These activities are intended to provide you with opportunities
to gain a more in-depth understanding of course topics and textbook readings through interaction
with other students. In these activities, you may be asked to reflect on your own training
experiences, to express your opinions on various readings and videos. You will be required to
post and respond to fellow classmates’ posts, engaging in discussions related to activities.

DIRECTIONS:

Tell us a little something about yourself. The goal of this class is to get to improve
physical fitness, health, and wellness through resistance training (weight training). Please
share what you hope to achieve in the class- what are Your Goals?

Here are some OTHER steps you need to follow to be successful at achieving a goal:

Own the Goal – The goal must yours…not something your parents, wife or boyfriend want you to
achieve. What do you want to achieve?

Believe in the Goal – Although the goal must challenge you…It must be realistic. If it is your first
time running a distance, the goal should be just to finish. Keep most physical goals to a 3%
improvement at a time. And allow ample time for the body to adapt to training.

Write out the goal – The physical act of writing out your goals burns them into your
consciousness and helps to make them believable. Goals should be performance-oriented.

Measure the goal – decide what limiters need to be overcome to accomplish your goal. Now,
where do you stand in relation to limiter? What do you need to work on the most to accomplish
your goal?

Set a Goal Deadline – You must a have date to accomplish your goal by. Otherwise, you will
never get started.

Support the Goal – Get the help of anyone who can lend support, moral or physical, to
accomplishing your goal. Avoid those who are negative. These people will hold you back.

Plan the Goal – Write out a plan. Map out how you plan to accomplish this goal. Just like making
a road map. You can always make changes, like little side trips, but you have a plan to keep you
moving forward.

Reward Yourself – Give yourself a reward when you accomplish your goal.
