You should submit the soft copies of your resume and cover letter to BlackBoard in only one file.
Read the details below carefully to help you do this assignment. If you have any question, please see me during scheduled office hours, or you can schedule a meeting.
Purpose of Assignment
The purpose of this assignment is to help students learn to write the above professional and technical documents that are commonly used in the workplace.
Objectives
The student will be able to communicate effectively in a work place through writing.
The student will identify the style and the format of different professional documents.
The student will be able to express his point in a professional environment.
Instructional Media: Tools and Resources
You will be shown samples of technical and professional documents in class.
Submission Criteria
1. Each student has to turn in a hard copy to me and upload an electronic copy to Blackboard.
2. The total score for this assignment, which is 10 points, will show on the hard copy.
Requirements and Guidelines:
To provide a good answer to this assignment, it is important to read and follow the following guidelines:
A. The Resume:
Your resume should contain the following parts:
a. Contact Information
b. Objective
c. Education
d. Employment
e. Personal (Skills, Awards, and Interests)
f. References (Available upon request.)
g. Each student should use the assigned resume format showed in classroom and posted on BlackBoard under a Resume Sample.
Important!
B. The Cover Letter:
The letter should include three paragraphs only: introduction (4 lines only), body (56 lines), and conclusion (3 lines only). Make sure you mention the following:
a. Return address
b. Date
c. Inside address
d. Formal salutation
e. Purpose of the letter and your interest in working there.
f. Your college education and courses relevant to the job.
g. Description of work experience, skills, and certificates relevant to the job. Note: If you dont have experience, make it up!
h. Explanation of why you are interested in the job.
i. Complimentary closing
j. Signature
k. Encl. Resume
Important!
Your cover letter should be written in the same format as that of the example cover letter on page 407, in Lannonthat is, your textbook.
C. Important Notes:
1. For both the resume and cover letter, you should use Times New Romans, size 12, single spaces between lines in the same paragraph and double spaces between paragraphs.
2. Top and bottom margins should be 1.3 inches each; left and right margins should be 1.3 inches each.
