The Importance of Being Persistent (especially when it comes to selling):
Based on a study from Darnell Corp, Heres what it takes to turn a prospect into a customer (imagine yourself browsing the Internet to shop for something; and for the purposes of this exercise, the product cant be found on Amazon).
When Marketers/Salespeople attempt to sell:
48% quit after 1stcontact with the customer
72% quit after 2ndcontact
84% quit after 3rd contact
90% quit after 4thcontact
Only 10% of salespeople make the 5thcall
Almost half of all salespeople quit after the First Call
An Amazing 80% of all sales are made after the 5thcall
That means 10% of the salespeople win 80% of the business
Your persistence will increase a prospects confidence in your Sales Ability
As a General Rule the Most difficult a client is to get, The harder they are to lose.
Relate this to how you buy 1 AIDA, A is a stands for attention, get their attention, I stands for create interest. D stands for creating intense desire. And then the last A is a call to action, make the customer do something. So when you’re writing an advertisement, or to keep it simple, a classified ad, which is only used really in magazines, and newspapers, which today doesn’t really work that well. But that’s recall that says the easiest way to understand this, this concept called AIDA is for you to write a classified ad. So that’s going to be one of the assignments this week. So your headline should be attention getting, you have three seconds to capture, the reader, the listener, the viewer, etc, when it comes to any sort of advertising medium. So your headline, your tagline has to be attention getting Got Milk, for example, that’s a perfect one.
The second line needs to create interest. So you have to get them interested enough to go to that third line, or to continue viewing, listening or reading your particular ad. So line two creates interest, tell them something that’s going to make them excited enough to go to the third line.
The third line should create intense desire through mystery and intrigue. Things like learn the secrets have learned something you didn’t know about, right? That sort of thing.
And then the fourth line is the call to action. And the call to action should tell the customer to do something, log on to this, go to this, use this QR code scan with your phone, call this 800 number something to that effect. So that is going to be part of your weekly assignments. is social media in order for social media promotions to be successful.
2. Why salespeople quit, and I’m going to relate it back to your shopping experiences online. You’ll see that I posted a document called the importance of persistence. Most of the time, sales people, or in our case, promotional activities on social media. When marketers are attempting to sell you something. Most of that stuff fails because of the lack of persistence. In fact, it takes anywhere from five to nine impressions of any sort of advertisement, to get anyone to buy. And when it comes to the millennials or Generation X, the younger generation. It takes even more to get them interested and to buy something from you. So you know what is the lesson and the lessons there is if you’re in the selling field, or you’re doing advertising and promotion, you have to be persistent, because most of the time. If you try one sales, sales phone call or one promo, it’s going to fail, you’re going to have to try it for five six or seven times in order to get anybody to buy anything. And you’ll see the statistics on this and the document again I posted called the importance of being persistent, the lesson there is very very simple when it comes to sales promotion, advertising, and selling you absolutely have to be persistent and bombard the consumer what is many pressions as you can get them convinced that it’s time to buy.
3. There’s about four or five keys that you have to follow in order to make a social promo work. key number one is you should post three times. A week across at least two to three platforms. So whether it’s instagram, facebook, if it’s an older demographic that sort of thing. You should post three times a week minimally. And again across a few platforms. You could use a social media, promoting calendar or HotSpot Or a few others out there that you could actually link up to where you post one thing and it’ll upload Sit across all yours Social media. If you want to be lazy and do one promotion. Caught across all these different social media platforms. So that’s key number one post, often right post, often three times a week.
And then key number two is you have to post the correct time of day. Always consider the fact that people are only in the morning of going up and they’re going to the gym, and they’re having their coffee and they’re driving to work, and that sort of stuff, and they’re checking their phones. So typically, the times to post social media three times a day would be between six and 7am, then followed by around 2pm, and then followed again, about six to 7:30pm. Again in the evening, you want to catch them after their dinner. So something like that. So don’t be posting at lunchtime. Don’t be posting 11 o’clock in the morning and don’t be posting at three o’clock in the afternoon. You have to start considering the day of an average person, particularly those out of college. Don’t consider yourself you guys aren’t typically that Main bars, you wanted to think about a 30 year old or 35 year old their day, when did I get up? When do they sit in their house, check their phones, when they drive in their car, whether they get to work, that sort of thing. So post often post the correct times of day.
The third thing to be aware of when you’re doing social media promotions, is that you should be using a common color theme that is consistent with your website, with your product packaging, or any other paraphernalia like business cards, letterhead, or anything else that you might use in your business. But color cakes, games should be consistent. So when you’re posting on social media, make sure that the colored background you use is consistent with your product color, and your website. The other part of that is I love when I do a social media post, I love to end the post with something that embeds in the mind that a consumer so that every time they read my post, they read it again and again. And again. For example, when I owned styles, make fight apparent fight apparel, at the end of every single post, we would post what’s your style with the question mark. So we would talk about the style of an influencer that we were working with, and show a picture of her typically a woman. And we would describe her style. She was quirky, she was trendy, she was ambitious. She was resilient, you know, that sort of thing. And then after that, at the very end of the post, we would say what is your style. So having that sort of, again, color scheme, and consistency in approach is also very, very important. The next thing to consider when it comes to social media posting is giveaways. bogos, which is buy one get one free contest. But if you’re going to use a contest, make sure you adhere to all the rules, particularly in California, because there are laws that govern contests. Now typically nobody looks at any sort of a small contest that’s on the internet. So there’s been very few if any lawsuits associated with it, but just a word of caution that when you’re doing a contest or a giveaway, there are lawyers out there just looking and aching to sue people. So Just be aware of that. What do I mean by a contest? When I owned il viaggio. restaurants in New York, we use contests like name our next dish and win a free entree, that sort of thing, right? named the next signature drink at our bar in the restaurant, and win a free dessert. So any sort of Giveaways contests or anything like that, also add value. And then finally, do not use what some people do. You know, if you tag five friends, if you cut and paste and you email, and you make it complicated, you have to keep the post simple to the point and don’t make the consumers do a lot of stuff, particularly men. As it relates to the difference between men and women. Men are much lazier and men will completely click off if you ask them to do four or five different things. Women do that also, but in more so for men, so keep it simple. So those are the important things about social media.
