Please read these assignment instructions completely before you begin your work, so that you don’t miss vital aspects of the assignment that could would cause point deductions in your final work.
Purpose
The purpose of this assignment is to create a Public Service Announcement (PSA) that alerts the public to an issue from this class and explains what to do about it.
Read more about Public Service Announcements at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Public_service_announcement. If this source is not enough, then continue researching this topic.
NOTE: Public Service Announcements are not political, editorial, or biased. They are about giving newsworthy information to the public. They are usually provided by the government or non-profit organization.
Scenario
Imagine that you were talking with some people you met at a party about issues from this class. One person was very intrigued by the wealth of your knowledge and passion for alerting the public about this issue that you were discussing that needs something done about it. It turns out that this person owns a radio station. Now he/she has asked you to write a PSA that will be read on the air. He/she is willing to give you up between 35-60 seconds to get your message across.
With enthusiasm, you embrace the idea of creating a PSA. You find a website that offers some insights into the process of creating a PSA (see http://www.psaresearch.com/_campeff.html). With more confidence, you begin to create your PSA.
Audience
The audience is the general public. But assume that the radio station broadcasts to a certain audience demographic. Based on your issue and resolution, identify your audience demographic.
Topic

Choose a topic for your PSA your book, The Gift of Fire.
Organization
Unless you have a better way of organizing your PSA storyline, use this one:

Greeting:
Begin with a “hello” or some greeting so the audience knows something new has come on the radio to listen to. Follow with “This is from with a public service announcement.”

Beginning:
Where you identify the listener (by role, etc.) so they know they ought to be listening. Then hook the listener as you identify the issue and impacted group(s).

Middle:

ISSUE: Explain what the problem is. Why it has occurred, that is, what combination of events, beliefs, situations have caused this issue to come about. Include research to support this issue from beyond the book, so it’s clear it’s a problem, name your research source (e.g.,author). See Citing Sources below.

SOLUTION: Explain how to resolve the issue. What needs to be done? You may also include research, naming your source, to show that this is a good/useful solution/resolution that can be helpful for the listener. See Citing Sources below.

Ending:

Where you explain what to do next. Provide a call for action (outcome) of the PSA. This call to action could be something the listener needs to do, or something they need to go read, etc.
This action needs to be something the listener can actually do, they have the ability to do it. For example, do not suggest that listeners “pass a law”, since normal citizens of our country can’t pass a law, they elective senators and congresspersons who pass laws.

End (Last sentence)

Say “For more Information: go to .” This URL should be a real place on the Internet; see Citing Sources below.
NOTE: When you read your PSA, you won’t be reading section headings. So, you wouldn’t say “Introduction” and then read the introduction. Instead use alternate language or pauses to help the reader follow your message.
Citing Sources
You won’t formally cite sources in this PSA like you would in a written work. When you cite your research, identify the source, e.g., “From USA Today, ” so the reader could go there and look for more information. At the ending, here you’ll cite the URL to go to find more information about your topic. It must be a real place on the Internet.
Tone, POV
IMPORTANT unlike the other writing for this class, this time, you need to pick a friendly, slightly chatty tone. Since you’ll be recording your written PSA, choose a tone that matches your message and audience. Use proper POV.
Use 1st POV to refer to yourself: (singular) “I”, “me”, “my”, (plural) “we”, “us”, “ours”.
Use 2nd POV to refer to the listener: “you”, “your”, “yours”.
Use 3rd POV to refer to anyone else: (singular) “he”, “she”, “his”, “hers”, (plural) “they”, “their”, “theirs”
Delivery & Length
Delivery: You will post a recording for us to listen to that is you reading your PSA. Feel free to mix in any other sounds that add to the delivery effect of your PSA.
Length: between 35-60 seconds. Do not go over this length. PSA’s are fixed in length.
NOTE: Do NOT use Panopto for this work. I can’t get access to those recordings. If you don’t know how to deliver a recording from a media app for an assignment, then go to the Open Learning Lab on the UWB campus (https://www.uwb.edu/digital-learning/digital-media/digital-media-services).
Please determine your own reading pace by reading and timing your previous writing assignments for this class. Find out how many words are needed to read at a normal voice for the time length.
Turn in
See Canvas for due dates. This assignment is turned in in two parts.
1) SCENARIO: Your scenario is where you identify your relative (relation & approximate age) before the assignment is due. This shows you’re thinking/working ahead of the due date.

Now more and more people are browsing on the Internet. We are also starting to get the information we want from the Internet. However, it is difficult to see what is right and wrong with the information on the Internet. The amount of information on the web is daunting, and much of it is wrong. This leads to confusion in our lives.
2. AUDIENCE:Identify the impacted group(s) (demographics). Who is affected by this issue?

By 2019, some 67% of people thought fake news and information caused a lot of confusion. https://www.statista.com/topics/3251/fake-news/. People who use the Internet are affected by these effects.
3. STATION:Identify the radio station that you’re targeting your PSA for.

4. WHY DID THIS HAPPEN:Explain the public interest in the issue. Why did this problem come about?

More and more people are using the Internet to get information. However, with the development of the number of people will also create fake news to cause panic. As more and more people go online, fake news or fake information should be controlled all the more.
5. SOLUTION:Explain how a PSA can help in issue resolution. What should be done about this issue?

PSA can help me spread my voice so that more people can hear my appeal. We need to identify and eliminate fake information, fake information, fake news, and stop their spread
6. CALL for ACTION:Identify the call for action (outcome) with which you plan to end your PSA. What is the result, the outcome, you want to have happen about this issue? A Call to Action actively asks the listener to DO something. What is that something? Specifically, where should they go for more information (e.g., a URL)? See End with in the Organization section. This needs to be a real location.
