functionalistswanttoexcludethecommunity,theconstructionalistsbelievethatthe
communitymakesthefamily.Familiesareproducedandcreatedbytheactionsof
personsoperatingwithinthesocialstructureandculturalmilieuthatsurroundsthem
(Maines,2000).Theyalsobelievethatifthecommunityviewsagroupsasnot
mainstreamthanthatgroupislikelynottosucceed.
Conclusion:Whileonebelievesthatnegotiationsbuildastrongerfamilyandcommunity
theotherdoesnotbelieveinnegotiationofanytype.Thecitizensthatfeelthe
neostandardmodelisbetterstatetheywouldhaveahardtimefairingup.Thisselfdoubt
alongwithlackofsupportmaystifletheirinnovations.Mostcitizensadmittowanting
theneostandardmodelforthemselvesandtheirchildrenbutarewillingtoacceptthe
realityofthevariantfamily.Becausethereisnobestfamilypatterntostrayfrom,there
canbenovariantsthatareinvariablyjudgedaslesser.Thenandonlythenhavewetaken
thefirststeptowardembracinggenuinediversity,(Scanzoni1989).Todatethereisno
onehouseholdmodelthatisflawlessbuthouseholdvarietyhasbeenfoundtoenrichthe
family.Householddiversitywithinterdependencethatbuildsastrongsenseof
communityhasbeenfoundtobehealthy.
