Article Analysis Summary

EEXX 507 Instructional Design and Assessment
May 24, 2020

1. What major issue(s) are addressed in this article?

This paper reports the discoveries of a relative examination of Analysis of Time-on-Task, Behavior Experiences, and Performance in two online courses with different authentic learning tasks: one course offering authentic discussion-based learning exercises and the other course offering authentic design/development- based learning activities.
2. Who were the subject(s) involved in the study?

As two courses with various web-based learning errands were intentionally chosen, 22 students who were selected two multi week-long online courses took an interest in this investigation. Twelve students were selected in Course A, and 10 students at Course B. Four students were excluded, two who dropped from each course because of individual reasons. The information announced in this paper concern 18 members, 10 (4 male and 6 female) in Course A, and 8 (all female) in Course B, with a mean time of 32.60 years and 35.25 years, individually.
3. What was the author/authors research question/hypothesis?

The study states five research questions:
Do online learners’ behavioral interactions with Moodle LMS differ between a course employing authentic discussion-based learning tasks and a course employing authentic design/development-based learning tasks?
Do online learners’ behavioral interactions with peers differ between a course employing authentic discussion-based learning tasks and a course employing authentic design/development-based learning tasks?
Does online learners’ time-on-task differ between a course employing authentic discussion-based learning tasks and a course employing authentic design/development-based learning tasks?
Does online learners’ attendance differ between a course employing authentic discussion-based learning tasks and a course employing authentic design/development-based learning tasks?
Does online learners’ academic performance differ between a course employing authentic discussion-based learning tasks and a course employing authentic design/development-based learning tasks?
4. What methodology was utilized to gather data?

The two courses were deliberately chosen as a result of the distinctive learning approach that each course utilized to plan legitimate learning exercises and the degree to which innovation was utilized. A constructionist approach was used for course A while a constructivist approach was implemented for course B. Both approaches hold the basic assumption that students build knowledge of their own and continuously reconstruct it through personal experiences with their surrounding external realities. The researcher used different types of learning activities for courses A and B and stablished a comparison between the course requirements, key learning activities, authentic tasks, and technology used between them.
5. Whatqualitative/quantitative information was presented in this study?

Qualitative: The researcher plainly characterized the kind of conduct information to be broken down dependent on the exploration questions, and second, the researcher verbalized the situational and logical elements of the log information by interviewing the given online errands; what’s more, recorded understudys exercises.
Quantitative: The information was then changed over to the Excel record group and registered in light of three-semester stages for additional examination. These stages were the start of the semester, during the semester and the end of the semester.
6. What obstacles, if any, jeopardized, compromised, or impacted the study?

The conduct cooperation information gathered utilizing Weblogs are constrained distinctly to interior information put away in the Moodle LMS server. The study only analyzed the behavioral patterns of online learners, and thus, there is a need to examine how these behavior patterns are related to other learning experiences such as a cognitive processing and affective states. This holistic approach to understanding learning experiences will help researchers obtain a more comprehensive picture of the interactions among the cognitive processes, affective states, and behavioral patterns. This all-encompassing way to deal with understanding learning encounters will assist specialists with getting an increasingly exhaustive image of the associations among the intellectual procedures, full of feeling states, and personal conduct standards.
7. Is the argument valid? Well presented? Convincing? Why? Why not?

Yes, the argument is valid, well presented and convincing because it is consequent with the research questions/hypothesis stated. The methodology used responds to the studys purpose and the data collection is accurate to measure the variables presented.
8. Did the article successfully answer the research question(s) it posed originally?

Yes. This examination dissected the conduct cooperations of online students and analyzed the distinctions in social communications for the two online courses. The study also answers the original posted questions in a successful way by comparing the differences in behavioral interactions for the two online courses each with different authentic learning tasks.
9. Are there other considerations that could be drawn into the article’s argument(s)?

In my opinion, the author should have included in the data analysis external communicationdata, such as email correspondences or conference calls. I wouldve also consideredincreasing the number of participants in the study. However, this article only analyzed thebehavioral patterns of online learners. I consider that the author should have examine and discusshow these behavior patterns are related to other learning experiences.
10. What is/are the article conclusion(s)?

This research describes behavioral interaction of students in two different learning courses. That shows that different designing of courses explores participants to different behavioral responses thus there is a direct relationship between course design/beliefs and response of students. The discoveries infer that while planning an online course, it must include learning assignments, streamlining students’ conduct association succession to augment their learning viability.
11. What are the implications of this article on future research?

The study offers the chance of conduct associations between different variables in online courses. It recommends that more indicators must be analyzed to comprehend factors influencing time on task that are directly related with the way that distance learning courses are designed. The study is an open door for future investigators to perform research on the same topic with increased number of participants and also relate learning patterns with behavioral patterns.
12. How is this article relevant to research question you pose for the final concept paper?

My research is mainly concerned with educating gifted students with ADHD during online courses, and I devised that the best methods for teaching them are in the desired school setting. This article shares a sharp contrast because, with covid19, I have thought that there should be mechanisms to draw the attention of students with ADHD in online classes as well. Also, it analyzes that different learning environments affect the behavior in a different way and precisely I want to focus in how to apply interventions to modify those behaviors and maximize the learning time for these students.
