3 paragraph intro
Most essays call for an introduction. We are going to offer some advice for how to do a longer intro than you might usually do. This intro is going to feature 3 paras. You have likely integrated all 3 features into an intro before, but you may have done it all in one para. We will be pushing length of your intro. There is a good reason to do this: you are writing longggg papers, so you dont want a short lil intro para at the start of a 10 page paper. Doing this 3 para intro will probably result in at least a page long intro.
the 3 parts:
1. HOOK: with the hook you get the readers’ attention. You can do it lots of different ways–a quote, a stat, a story, a picture, a personal anecdote, a hypothetical question–there are lots of ways to do a hook. Here is a link to some possible hooks (there are lots of such posts on the internet–just google “hooks for essays”)https://writemyessay4me.org/blog/essay-hook
2. BOOK: with Book you step back to offer a summary of the main book or prompt that is shaping the class. You should write it in your voice–dont take it off the Amazon review. If your class isnt using one book, you can offer a summary of the main concept you are discussing in class–climate change, racism, etc.
3. COOK: cook (or thesis) is super crucial. This is the para where you tell us what you are cooking up. Or think of it as a road map–you are telling the reader what your paper will be doing. This should be SPECIFIC, and you will tell us what concepts you will be discussing. It is very straight forward. “In this paper I will first be talking about 3 features that make South Hayward a suburb, and these 3 features are…” Cook para really is for you, as much as the reader. It tells YOU what you are doing.

Question 7
Many members of the Hayward community believe that in order to feel safe and fully participate, strategies such as community policing should be used. Every member of a community should be able to feel safe in their neighborhood and therefore, they can join hands and forge efficient strategies for their safety. Many communities have since adopted community policing as a strategy that ensures everyone participates and feels safe. According to one person, community policing is the most needed approach to engage everyone in the city’s safety. Community policing results in a positive non-enforcement contact with the general public and it can be an effective strategy that promotes trust between the public and law enforcement. Another person stated that community policing should be enforced to improve the safety standards in the city. When residents participate in enhancing community security, there is enhanced trust and ultimately security is improved within a neighborhood.
Considering the safety and full participation of people in Hayward, the other strategy that can be used is collaborative or participatory training of the community alongside law enforcement officers. Such a strategy is likely to ensure that there is police legitimacy which is a necessary condition for lowering crime rates and improving public security. Participatory training however depends on an adequate investment of money, time, and personnel. According to a resident, participatory training of the police officers and the community members will go a long way in improving the safety of my neighborhood. This means that the police officers need to work in collaboration with the police officers so that the communitys safety concerns are identified and addressed. The positive attitudes attributed to such a collaborative strategy shows that it can be effective in promoting neighborhood security.
Question 8
Many people think that policing is not done safely in Hayward because of the lack of trust between the community and law enforcement. Law enforcement officers are tasked with providing essential protection to all citizens for them to lead productive lives. This requires a productive relationship between citizens and law enforcement officers. One person stated, policing is not done safely in Hayward because there is low trust between the police and the residents. This statement shows that there are several unresolved grievances between the people and law enforcement, a situation that has catalyzed security concerns in Hayward. This concern was raised by another person who emphasized that No. Because the community have had a strained relationship with the police that arise from unresolved grievances towards the police. Every citizen is entitled to live with the confidence that that law enforcers will live up to their mandate and ensure safe communities for them.
Another reason for why residents believe that policing is not done safely is because of the instances of police misuse of authority. There are concerns on the efficacy of existing policy in promoting transparency, accountability and safe delivery of law enforcement services in communities. These efforts can enhance citizen confidence and significantly allow for the identification and correction of existing deficiencies that challenge community safety. Peyton, Sierra-Arvalo & Rand (2019) state that improved police-public relations is a necessary but not sufficient condition to achieve more just, effective policing and should not be pursued to the exclusion of other vital reforms. The fact that the people of Hayward do not trust the safety of police policing, is an indication that reforms will be an important factor in improving and sustaining community safety.
Question 9
One way that we can envision Hayward as a place where everyone feels safe is when there are few reported cases of crime or conflicts. Neighborhood security is an important aspect of living standards all over the world and it emphasizes the need to reduce the fear of crime and actual crime within communities (As-Salaam, 2020). A safe city is one that there are few reported crimes because the law enforcement officers act according to their mandate. According to one of the people, it involves a city with very few cases of conflicts reported to the police and the police having the conflict resolution role as a measure of last resort. This response reveals the role of law enforcement officers in assisting neighborhoods to realize safe communities. It also shows that their roles go beyond just enforcing laws to acting as agents for conflict resolution.
There are people who envision a safe Hayward in terms of unity. Unity within a community is essential as it ensures that people work together in good times and in difficult situations. Without unity, people cannot be united in fighting against safety concerns and in forging the right mechanisms for long term results. According to one resident, a safe Hayward has a close knitted society with multiple systems of accountability for community members. Law enforcement is charged with ensuring boundaries are maintained in these relationships. This shows that unity can be used to create accountable and transparent systems in Hayward and through this, the people of Hayward can enjoy security. It also shows that law enforcement officers have an important role to play to the realization and maintenance of unity in Hayward.
Another way to envision Hayward as a safe place for everyone is when there is trust between the police and community members. Some neighborhoods excel as safe spaces for individuals and communities while others struggle with the proliferation of crime. The difference is the nature of relationship between law enforcement officers and the residents. For instance, one resident mentioned that a safe city involves improved trust between the police and the city residents. Law enforcement will play as a facilitating party. This statement further exemplifies the role of police officers in enforcing the law and thereafter creating safe environments for residents. This trickles back to the concept of community policing and emphasizes the fact that police officers can adopt participatory management in law enforcement.
Question 10
When we think about safety in Hayward, the solution that should be prioritized is police and community participation. Safety is not only about reducing crime or the risk of harm, but also about building strong, resilient, and participatory communities. It also about the value systems of a community regarding safety and effective leadership. One of the residents stated that training of the police and the community members on the law enforcement expectations should be prioritized. By prioritizing this, the police become aware of the safety expectations and needs of the community members and the community also becomes aware of the limits of law enforcement in maintaining safety. Training will also allow for a re-investment on resources for the safety of communities.
The other solution that can be prioritized to realize the safety of Hayward is community policing. This solution revolves around community partnerships, problem-solving, and transformation. The community must be willing to cooperate with law enforcement agencies and forge effective strategies such as community policing to achieve safety. On the other hand, law enforcement officers must have critical problem-solving skills to be able to understand the safety needs of the community. One person stated that community policing should be prioritized as the primary solution in enhancing the safety of the city an indication that community policing is at the center of solving the safety needs of Hayward. Generally, for community safety to attained, people, processes, and policies must be leveraged to forge an effective way towards safety. These are areas that should be prioritized by the people and governing bodies at Hayward is safety is to be sustained.
There are people who believe that on-job training of the police should be prioritized when thinking broadly about Haywards safety. Police officers are required to receive academy training before they are released to protect and serve citizens. The main aspect of their training is to equip them with the right skills to be able to protect and serve the public. One the residents stated that on-job training of the police should be prioritized and indication that it is their responsibility after training to ensure that there are safe communities. On-job training is an important concept in ensuring Haywards security because it will also equip law enforcement officers to properly implement other strategies such as community policing and participation. Moreover, it will equip them with leadership skills needed to address the safety concerns of the people.
