1. It can be argued that the role of the media in politics has changed over time as the methods of accessing information have changed. Discuss the role of media in politics today and why it is protected by the Constitution. Include how the changes in technology have changed how the public accesses political information and if that has changed the role of the media.
2. Although political parties were not established at the founding of the United States, the Democratic and Republican parties have been dominant in recent history. Discuss the problems of only having two political parties to democracy and to the American public in general. Include the problems the two-party system presents for 3rd Party Presidential candidates and in the legislative process. Do you think having more parties would solve these issues?
3. Millennials (born 1981-1996) are projected to be almost 30% of all eligible voters in the 2020 Presidential election, matching the percentage of the baby boomer generation (born 1946- 1964). Generation Z (born after 1996) are projected to be 10% of eligible voters. Given that these younger generations are more diverse and politically liberal than older generations, what consequences might they have on the outcome of the election? Historically, younger generations participate at lower rates
than older generations. What strategies would you recommend to get more young people to participate in the next election?

The pandemic has created an emergency situation where government officials are making policies and changes as quickly as information become available to them. Review the Forbes magazine article The Effect of Mandatory Mask Policies and Politics On Economic Recovery: A State By State View and discuss the findings of the three questions the author poses, How is Covid-19 trending in states that have introduced a mandatory mask policy versus those who have not?; How does the trend in new cases differ in states with a republican governor versus a democrat?; and How is the virus trending based on the political party in control of a states house and senate? Include in your discussion the role of ideology, majority control and federalism in our political system.
