Aristotles Tragic Hero: a brief review
a. The tragic hero must be elevated and essentially good; someone who is admirable.
b. The tragic hero must fall as a result of hamartia which can be defined in three ways:
1. Fall as a result of a mistake or error.
2. Fall as a result of a character flaw or flaws
3. Fall as a result of a mistake or error that is made as a result of a flaw or flaws
c. The tragic hero must grow, but the only way to grow is to recognize and accept responsibility for wrongdoing: the character must admit to having done the wrong thing and be sorry or horrified over what he or she has done.
